Are you excited by the potential impact that emerging technologies will have on humanity? Do you believe we can design & develop our own futures? Are you proactive and passionate? Obsessed with form and function? Excited by each new LLM feature that comes out?
We’re looking for energetic Product and Service Designers who have talent for creative problem solving and want to help design & deliver efficient, elegant and ethical real world solutions. There are potentially two positions available, depending on your level of experience.
Who are we?
We are the DEUS initiative, and we are all about exploring AI in the service of humanity. No, we are not calling ourselves gods (promise!), but our name is a nod to ‘deus ex machina’ - Latin for ‘god from the machine’. We believe that artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing are reshaping the way we live, and we’re here to make sure that change is positive for the world. As a happy coincidence, DEUS is also an acronym representing the quadrivium of key disciplines we believe are important to building successful AI-powered services: Data / Engineering / User-experience design / Strategy. The DEUS initiative is now 5 years old, but the founders have been working together very successfully for well over a decade, so there is a comfortable family feel to the company. Our clients and projects are international and diverse. Our HQ is in the heart of Amsterdam, with teams in Porto (right by the beach!) and A Coruña, Spain.
Who are you?
You tell us! We want to meet you. If you are reading this you are clearly excited by the power of design & technology combined to create a positive impact on our futures.
As a designer on the DEUS team you’ll be involved in strategy and concept development, researching user and business needs, and designing elegant, easy-to-use solutions to meet those needs. Together with the rest of the team you’ll play a key part in seeing a project through: from the very first brief to launch and beyond. Within the team your role will focus on the desirability and usability aspects of the product or service – working with clients and end-users to define scope, and diving deep into research. In addition to the desirability lens, you will also collaborate on making any service viable and feasible, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys tackling complex problems and designing efficient solutions. Collaboration is key to this role, as that is the basis of the entire company.
Some of the tasks you might be doing in these roles (with a different focus depending on which ‘flavour’ of product/service designer you are):
- Research planning and execution (including qualitative user research and market research)
- Insight analysis to help define strategy and scope (creating customer experience journeys, mapping pain points & opportunities identification; developing personas; creating Future Service Blueprints etc.)
- Plan and facilitate design workshops in different timeframes and formats (Design Sprints; Design-thinking workshops; Ideation sessions; value proposition sessions etc.)
- Designing user flows and interactions for complex digital products
- lo-fi and hi-fi prototyping of products & services
- Designing beautiful visual interaction or communication elements for the products & services
- User testing, validation processes and client recommendations
- Training and guiding clients on Service Design, Design Sprints, Design Thinking, Customer Centricity, Designing for AI etc.
...and some more points:
- Communication is key: documenting and presenting design and strategy decisions
- Visual and aesthetic acuity is important (beauty can be an extremely powerful tool in creating effective products & services, even if the interface may be invisible)
- Familiarity with adobe suite, sketch etc. Bonus if you have video/audio skills, UX copywriting, 3D graphics, physical prototyping, environmental/experiential design etc.
- Broad knowledge of emerging technology trends and opinions is a big plus
- Excellent written and verbal English is the only core requirement, but other languages are always a bonus
- We will provide top hardware [macbook pro etc] and the latest software and tooling – we use the right equipment for the job
note: If you don’t feel that you perfectly fit the description above, but you have some other background or skillset that you think could be of interest, please still get in touch!

We have a hybrid office policy with no fixed requirements for attendance - we fundamentally believe in flexibility, and you will be given a lot of freedom while translating complicated problems into easy-to-use products. This means managing your own priorities, trying out new things and working a flexible hours’ scheme.
